Winter Wreath

Today I did something unexpected for my birthday:  I took a lunch break!  I actually left the center!!  I stopped in the local Dollar Tree to see if they had the wreath I would need for a project I saw online.  Picked up 1 large and 2 small simple wreaths to explore with... This project involved the cheapest craft supply ever.  Coffee filters.  Seems so cheap and when I started I was a little nervous that it was in turn going to look cheap.  Never the less, I persevered and it turned out pretty okay!  I'm working on a ribbon to add before I display it this winter.  First step was to bunch up the coffee filters {one. at. a. time} and then "fluff" them a bit to open them. Next step was to hot glue each filter to the wreath.  Fun fact? I think I burned myself more than 10 times in the process.  I recommend putting newspaper or something protective on your workspace to make sure you don't damage anything in the process. Continue around the wreath; I atte

Los Porchs Go Antiquing

We had grand plans for the weekend that included traveling to Wisconsin, but while celebrating the birth of Baby P, Porch & I decided it was probably best to allow the family some time to adjust and such before imposing ourselves upon them.  We were both a little disappointed not to be the first to hold Baby P, but as the saying goes -- save the best for last. Hoping to meet Baby P before Christmas. For the first time in month, we slept in, had a lazy brunch, and relaxed on the couch for a while watching Mad Men and Party Down (I recommend both).  Not wanting to waste the entire day this way given the fact that the rain had let up and there was a forecasted window of awesome weather for the afternoon, we headed out for a walk to Goodwill.  As I was checking in (damn you Foursquare), I noticed that my dear friend Megan was at the Randolph Street Antiques Market.  After watching me do the happy dance, Porch agreed to walk over to check it out.  We certainly weren't disappointed

Labor Day Weekend 2011

Los Porchs spent the weekend in the north woods with the family, celebrating  mom and dads purchase of a new cabin only six minutes from the shack. their offer was accepted so now they're waiting for the inspection to take place and then they can move forward with closing. Porch and I are excited to see them develop their new place into a cozy retreat... That we can partake in! The rain wasn't invited but sure made its presence known! We got there Friday night and put up the tent just in time. The rain came down in some pretty torrid bouts, we had some water in the tent, but we did okay. The water only came in where our heads touched the side of the tent, something that can't really be avoided when you're six foot five.  Saturday we ventured to Wabeno to check out the Christian Thrift Store and I was more than impressed. It was super clean and organized and I found some incredible deals. I've been working on refurbishing some of our classrooms with real items ra
