Charlotte {9 months}

Let's just put this out there, we picked Charlotte before Charlotte was a princess.  ;)  And I'm not sure that the royal baby will ever be called Charlie or Charlie Bug and I'm even more certain that I don't care what they named their kid.  It's just about to be an amazingly popular baby name and we were TOTES ahead of that trend.

Charlotte is 9 months old already!

Stats
Weight:  20 lbs, 12 oz (86.13 %ile)
Length:  29.75 inches (98.75 %ile)
Head circumference:  18.23 inches (96.69 %ile)
This girl is perfect.  She is proportional and amazingly squishy.

Teeth:  still just the 2 lower, but I'm confident she'll have a few top teeth soon.  She's been a drool machine lately and everything is back to being in her mouth.

Charlotte likes...
... walking around the house (holding mama and daddy's fingers)
... Army crawling, especially when she can pull on the high pile carpet in her room
... those Gerber wheel treat things
... bath time
... blowing raspberries

Charlotte does NOT like...
... being over tired
... still not a fan of Nose Frieda (though if she can chew on it, she hates it less)
... saying goodbye to Mama in the morning at school
... when Mama takes things away from her (like when I don't let her eat paper, because I'm mean like that)

Things to look forward to...
... Planning the birthday party
... We're taking a 4 generation photo this weekend & I'm so excited to have that keepsake
... I can't wait to bring out the water table my parents bought for Charlotte at Christmas-time!
... I can't wait to plop Charlie into the lake up north and see how she reacts!  She loves the bath!

Charlotte is cracking me up on a daily basis and loves to make sure that Porch and I are within eyesight at all times.  Now that she's mobile, she has started to creep towards where ever I am (especially when she's hungry).

This girl.
Couldn't sit still for a minute!!!  Immediately lunged over the side to see what was on the floor.
But then waved goodbye.  ;)

Mother's Day with my itty bitty

  1. She looks so much like Ryan but when she smiles so big she instantly morphs in to a mini-you. Looking forward to watching the three newest additions to the Kempowski clan grow up together. I hope they'll be good buddies!

    1. It was so fun to see the girls together at the shower! I'm excited to see them grow up together; having lots of cousins was always fun as a kid! :)

Changing of the Seasons

We are approaching the one-year anniversary of when Ryan completed suicide. It brings a lot of emotions and feelings and memories and honestly - exhaustion. I have spent the last year in therapy digging myself out of a lot of those feelings and learning how to be Danie and not Porch and Danie. There have been a lot (!) of tears, a lot of me yelling at Ryan, cursing his name for leaving me to parent alone, a lot of wondering what comes next for the girl gang, a lot of rebuilding. But we're here. I'm here. And arguably stronger than ever (though not physically - listen, I eat my feelings and will work on that side of things later -- DO NOT SEND ME MLM BS ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT). I am much more aware of myself and the girls and more emotionally present than I've ever been. Those girls have been my light through some really dark shit. The seasons are changing. We are almost through our season of "firsts." And if you know, you know. If you don't, you're quite fort

It is not 1950; I do not vacuum in pearls.

Hi, it's me - I know it's been a while, but I've been deep inside that bubble I mentioned when everything first happened in November 2020 and I am starting to emerge having done some serious healing and navigating within the trauma of being a suicide survivor and a sole parent. This has nothing to do with that though. I'm dumping this thought here because I need it documented: You know how the conservative crowd tends to use "Well I don't have any children, why should I help pay for the schools?" and "People are just too lazy to work, I don't know why we need social services to help people pay for their child care and food?" I'm noticing those are the same voices I hear in restaurants complaining that there are no servers. No bartenders. No one available to change their oil or to do other trade work. And no one to watch their children.  The CEO of the company I work for posted a big response about how child care is the gatekeeper to folks

They see her rollin'....

Umm, so after that post yesterday where I mentioned Charlotte seemed ready to roll her hot body over, Porch and I were attempting to help her burn some energy with extra tummy time in the evening and my little bug rolled from tummy to back as we watched & cheered her on.  I mean, when I said, "Show us how you roll," I didn't expect this one-month-old infant to actually roll herself over.   Clearly, our child is gifted.  (How come that tactic doesn't work when I politely request that she go to sleep?) Thankfully, I totally get that children can reach certain milestones early & others late... I suspect she'll have some wicked linguistic skills as we've been talking to her nonstop since her arrival and reading her novels (currently digging Charlotte's Web).  Plus, this kid has the body of a three-month-old so I'm not too shocked.  Just anxious that now she's semi-mobile and cannot be left alone in any position where she might roll away.  And
