Operation: Make a Nursery

Porch and I headed out shopping yesterday afternoon with a few friends and while I was decidedly over the entire process, I am pleased to tell you we found a set that met all of the criteria and it will be delivered next weekend.  We got home and enlisted the help of said friends to relocate the guest bed to the front sunroom.  We chose this location to be the "new" guest room because it has doors and heat and lots and lots of windows which creates an amazing cross-breeze in the summer (man do I miss summer). The new guest bedroom!  Ready for its first guests:  My parents!!! This room looks totally empty now... and it's a little overwhelming to think about what it will look like in a week. Now that it's all moved, Porch and I are kind of having this realization that we'd like to purchase a large rug for the nursery and ideally have it down before the furniture arrives (in t-minus 7 days).  We'll be out and about today looking for the right ...

Nursery shopping: The new Sunday Funday

Our Sunday Funday has consisted thus far of us venturing out this morning to start comparing some of the cribs we've seen online.  Porch is a stickler for quality and we both would prefer to have real wood.  I love the white stains, he's more into the espresso which I don't mind but it's not my first choice.  I'm giving in on this one as I don't care enough to make it an issue.  I like the darker wood too (I guess). Our first stop was Pottery Barn Baby; I'm not even sure why... we're not really Pottery Barn people, so to speak.  But Porch had seen a crib he liked online so we went to check it out.  The highlight of this trip was giggling at Porch as he attempted to wrap his brain around the fact that the "set" of furniture wasn't an all-inclusive set, but rather the fact that all of the pieces matched.  "I just don't know why this piece says $899 and this one says $1069 if they're in the same set."  Not one salesperson ...

It's Time to Cook!

I've been shouting "It's time to cook, bitch!" and "It's science, bitch!" all weekend.  We really wanted to get our hands on some Haz-Mat suits so we could get the full effect.  In hindsight, we probably watch too much Breaking Bad for our own good.  We had friends over this weekend and brewed Porch's first batch of beer in his big kid kit.  Sad, sad morning when it accidentally clanked against the bathtub and knocked the bottom right out of the carboy.  Ever watched 5 gallons of delicious-smelling beer literally go down the drain?  We have.  And it broke our hearts. But.  We understand and appreciate the learning curve with such a hobby and resiliently made our way to Brew & Grow this afternoon so we can try, try, try again.  We'll be brewing a fine Robust Porter this afternoon and will be applying all we've learned to this new batch. And we sure did buy a plastic carboy this go-round.  Collectively, we're not the most graceful ...
