Damn it feels good to be a gangsta

To everyone who told me I would come to love running and crave it, I'm kinda sorry I laughed in your faces.  On my way home from work, I was feeling anxious and fidgety and like I had some extra (seriously, how?) energy that needed to be dealt with pronto.  I came home and putzed around, avoided homework, the usual... and then decided to lace up the old (they're new, it's an expression, work with me) running shoes and hit the track even though it's my night "off" from running.  Porch's only request?  Make sure I'm ready to run with him tomorrow.  This running business is growing on me, even if I move slowly, because I've come to associate it with good sleep, less anxiety, and most importantly, time with Porch.  When the snow gets here, we're going to have to think of ways to stay in shape (let's call it maintaining at best) since the track will be covered with snow and is typically a mud hole until late spring.

All my Chicago friends, tell me about where you go to work out when the outdoors won't meet your needs.... we're open to suggestions... referrals... free memberships... haha, you know, the usual.

Happy Hump Day!

xoxo

  1. Yay! Running is so addictive, I know that exact feeling about being antsy and needing to RUN. Even if you're exhausted. And as for the weather changing - winter running is the BEST! Just need smartwool socks, some gloves and a hat!

It is not 1950; I do not vacuum in pearls.

Hi, it's me - I know it's been a while, but I've been deep inside that bubble I mentioned when everything first happened in November 2020 and I am starting to emerge having done some serious healing and navigating within the trauma of being a suicide survivor and a sole parent. This has nothing to do with that though. I'm dumping this thought here because I need it documented: You know how the conservative crowd tends to use "Well I don't have any children, why should I help pay for the schools?" and "People are just too lazy to work, I don't know why we need social services to help people pay for their child care and food?" I'm noticing those are the same voices I hear in restaurants complaining that there are no servers. No bartenders. No one available to change their oil or to do other trade work. And no one to watch their children.  The CEO of the company I work for posted a big response about how child care is the gatekeeper to folks...

35 weeks = 35 days to go!

We might have a name picked out (nothing like waiting until the last minute).  We're not sharing and it's only partly because we want it to be a surprise.  It's also because I'm a little nervous that we'll change our minds when we meet her.  Though I'm like 95% sure she will fit right into this name.  It's perfect and I love it. I also think I started nesting this week.  I got home on Monday night and went to town cleaning, organizing, everything.  We have her crib ready for her, which seems funny because I'm pretty sure she'll be hanging with us in our room for a while ;)  Her room is coming together, things are getting put away and organized and it makes me so happy! How far along?  35 weeks Progress:   None.  Cervix is closed, she hasn't dropped -- she ain't goin' no where anytime soon. Total weight gain:   I've gained 19 pounds total (my guess is that's 59% Drumsticks -- which I have found a replacement for:   ...

That time we sold our house.

Porch, Charlotte, and I are excited to share that we are moving!  If you follow us on Facebook, you know that we put our house up for sale on Thursday.  By Saturday afternoon, we had 3 offers on the table and we accepted!  I can't even begin to express our shock, our joy, our excitement, and our nervousness about the months ahead. We put an offer on a house closer to my new job as Charlie attends the center and being closer means that Porch can drop her off on my early shift (6am-3pm) and pick her up on my late shift (9:30-6:30pm) so Charlie isn't spending all of her waking hours in child care.  We're ridiculously excited, yet cautious. The new house has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and is begging for a series of updates.  There are a number of projects that await us but we're so excited to call this new place home and to make it into something that's truly ours.  A home we can grow into.  A home we can share with our family over the years and create ...
